What's this all about? Well, Mike Carey has written the first half of a story and you're gonna have to finish it. Mike will also be judging the best second half and we'll be publishing the winner in Murky Depths. Entry is free, but of course you'll have to buy a copy of Murky Depths Issue #10 to read the first half of the story and receive your entry form.

I am a big fan of Mike Carey. Most people probably know about his work on Hellblazer and Lucifer, but I also recommend 13 (psychic punk), Carver Hale (London gangsters and Demons) and his new series of Felix Castor novels (exorcisms you can really tap your foot to). I have recently read book 1, The Devil You Know, and it was exactly what you want and expect from a Mike Carey creation.

Sorry to gush, but anyone who can have John Constantine call a demon 'c*nt-bubble' is worthy of geeky love.

Luke, are all of those (aside from the Felix Castor novels) comics?

You lucky UK bastards, BTW. I think we only have one of the Castor novels released over here. You guys have what - Four?

13 and Carver Hale well originally printed in the 2000 AD comic anthology title and are now available as graphic novels published through Rebellion. Lucifer and Hellblazer are published as a part of the DC Vertigo line of comics and are also graphic novels. All are well worth a read.

We may have more of Mike Carey's Felix Castor books over here but you have more Gregg Hurwitz novels so that makes us even.

Ah, cool. Thanks. I've got quite a few of his Hellblazer comics and I'm familiar with Lucifer, but 13 and Carver Hale are new to me. Will keep an eye out!

Don't forget 'Crossing Midnight'. I thought that was wonderful. It's been collected into three volumes. I can't recommend it highly enough.

To Luke/From Gillian:
There was also a story about fairies and a teenager girl by Mike Carey. I think the title is "God save the Queen". That and his comic version of Neil Gaiman's "NEVERWHERE"were wonderful comics as well.

The buzz is that Issue #10 could sell out. So if you're interested in entering the writing competition it would be a good idea to pre-order.
