Really looking forward to the beginning of the Dead Girls adaptation. Leonardo M Giron is an astounding artist and will add a new dimension to Richard's writing. Hopefully, Leonardo's art will iron out the controversial creases that unfortunately plagued Death and the Maiden and show what a true talent of the craft that Richard Calder is. His sometimes disturbing blend of Sci-fi and erotica is challenging but undeniably compelling. |

Answer to Luke C. "His sometimes disturbing blend of Sci-fi and erotica is challenging but undeniably compelling." Very true. I wish that SF writers could follow the example of Richard Calder. Comic writers get inspired by SF and they do wonderful things with SF ideas. And young people love that. I am very sorry to say that it does not seem to work in the same way for SF writers. There are some stories about comic heroes in SF magazines, but I am seriously wondering why most of SF writers do not get more inspiration from the magical worlds of comics. They seem to think that this is not "serious". WHY does everything to be "serious"? And then, I am convinced that a creative artist can consider very "serious"aspects in an imaginative and original story. "Serious"does not have to be synonymous of "boring". R. Calder's work, your own work and of course Alan Moore's work prove this. An info: there is a new magazine publishing Japanese SF short stories. The huge success of mangas must have played a role in this. Nick Mamatas, the editor of the anthology knows MD. If someone in MD is interested, their site is: http://www.haikasoru.com/?p=116&cpage=1#comment-29 I hope that the rest of the SF world will soon get the message... |
