Wrath of God marks a return to the crime/horror feel of my earlier efforts, Empathy and The Dark Gospel: Tin-Man. It has all my favourite ingredients, shocks, blood, gunplay, suspense and a cute half-angel in a nightie clutching a toothbrush, and should make quite an impact on long-term readers.

Anyone who has read the entire serial from The Dark Gospel onwards will know that Halo Slipping, the half-angel character, may not be all that she seems. It is from this point that we begin to see her plan unfold. In essence, we have spent all this time dragging ourselves up the hill and are now poised to begin the fast, terrifying descent into the unknown down the other side. Or something like that.

This story has been bouncing around in my head for years (the photo shoot that provided the reference points for the Wrath character was done around the same time as the ones for Empathy) and has been re-plotted several times before reaching this point. The line, "No one threatens my girl. Not even God himself," sums up the feel of the story for me. Ridiculous, but perfect for the hyper-real tone I hope I have created.

Artwise, I am happy with it, although I have moved on some way since then. That's the problem with the nature of this work. By the time you see your stuff in print, you are already working on the next piece and have progressed.

In short then, it's good but with even better to come.
