My copies arrived today. Can't remember being this excited about a publication before. As soon as I got in from work I flicked through a copy from front cover to back. As expected, the production is of the highest quality. (Lovin Oli Smith's illustrations for my story! Thanks Oli!) The entire package is just gorgeous. I think I'm in love with this magazine... Gah!  I can't wait to get my copy, you lucky bastard.  It is a great looking mag, isn't it?  Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a genre magazine that looks as good as MD does.

Hi there - I'm kind of new in here but I just wanted to say I also love this magazine! Its got everything - a mix of unusual and interesting stories, graphic strips and amazing artwork.

Havent read all of issue 5 yet but so far, Ed Norden's Johnny Nightshift is standing out as my favourite - love the artwork, especially those no access? signs...

First impressions of the magazine are good. Being an anxious sort of guy, I leapt first to my own contributions. The Dark Gospel: Conclusion is the best chapter of the series and perhaps the favourite thing I have worked on to date. It is the most coherent and action-packed episode, bloody and a little sexy.

I'm also fairly sure that I don't come off as a drooling moron in the interview too. Phew.

Hope everyone liked the cover. Time to read the rest of the issue now that my stomach has stopped churning.

Hi to all. I'm new to the forums here, thought I would just tip my hat and say how much I enjoy Murky Depths. Issue#5 was up to the usual standard - best stories for me were 'Killer of the dead' by Edward M Erdelac, and 'Pearl' by Lisa A Koosis, but my personal favourite had to be 'Johnny Nightshift' by Ed Norden.
The artwork in MD is miles ahead of any other publication I've seen.
Keep em' coming.

Hey Ilan,

Thanks for the encouraging words - I'm glad you liked the story. I thought the illustration Tom Moran did for Killer Of The Dead was pretty fitting as well, much in the vein of the old EC horror stuff.  I almost wished I'd written a little word balloon for The Old Hag to say in the corner - "The Blackfoot always said the white man would suck their people dry! But they never knew how true that was till they met this bunch!"

To CandraH and Ilan,

Massive thanks for your kind and encouraging words regarding "Johnny Nightshift"; it is honestly appreciated and highly flattering.

Thanks again,

Ed

You're welcome. I've just started writing again after 10 years, and I know it counts to hear positive feedback from people.
Murky Depths seems to be pretty unique in its approach to artwork being integral to the look and feel of the zine rather than just complementing it. I always enjoyed reading comics when I was younger, this has that feel of opening up a new issue of your favourite comic and discovering the dark wonders within...

I just finished reading the issue.  Everyone should be proud of what they did here.

I particularly enjoyed Matthew Doyle's tripped-out "Fix" and Edward M. Erdelac's "Killer of the Dead" (great to see a weird western in the pages of MD).

Thanks to everyone for the stories!

I particularly enjoyed another dose of Ed Norden's blend of stylistic art and poetry/prose, Johnny Nightshift.

The art of Paul Drummond for Lisa Koosis' Pearl and Leanardo M. Giron's for Final Cut written by James Johnson caught my eye too.

Another beautiful-looking issue.

I'm glad you liked the Pearl illustration, Luke. The fact that Lisa wrote a story with a such strong atmosphere made my job easier.

Happy to see somebody who appreciates wierd westerns reading the mag, DK. I'm a big Joe R. Lansdale and Robert E. Howard fan. You don't see a lot of appreciation for the genre, so again, it's heartening to find there's an audience out there.

I have to second the compliments on Paul Drummond's illustration for my story, "Pearl."  I thought it was just superb!
