We're thinking about offering Google Checkout as a way of paying. Their admin charges are less than Paypal. What's the general concesus?

Is that as an alternative option for buyers, or an actual replacement? While I have no real knowledge about online payments etc (although I do use paypal), I'm thinking people would be more likely to buy from the site if they're familiar with the method of payment.

My first thought when reading 'google checkout' was 'what's that?'

However EVERYONE has heard of paypal. It's familiar.

Just my thoughts

I checked out google checkout - sorry Terry, couldnt resist stealing your pun! It looks pretty secure. And it cant hurt for paypal to have a little competition. I havent double checked but I'm sure google's fees are about half what paypal charges.

Thanks for the comments guys. Google checkout would be an alternative rather than a replacement for Paypal. As Candra says, Google takes much less in admin charges, so in that respect we get nearer the actual price.

By no means was I dissing Google checkout, was just suggesting it be an alternative rather than a full-on replacement.

Just out of interest, do you sell the mag on Amazon, and other similar sites? I know you obviously get the most profit from sales made directly from the Murky Depths site, so I'd always buy from here, supporting the mag. But was just wondering, as it might allow for a larger audience, etc?

Just a thought.

Westy, yes, Amazon Uk sell Murky Depths (but they always list it as out of stock)and we also sell through Amazon - we generally offer the cheapest price. There is a seller on Amazon called Deleted-DVDs who undercuts us by a penny or so but I don't know where they've acquired their copies. If I wasn't frightened of falling foul of slander laws I'd say they haven't actually got any copies in stock.

I had never even heard of Google Checkout until I saw it mentioned in this forum. I've used PayPal for years though and I'm unfortunately a creature of habit.
